Flamboyant by Joana Vasconcelos at the Palacio de Liria

Renowned contemporary artist Joana Vasconcelos will bring her signature use of colors, shapes, and volumes to the interiors and gardens of the Palacio de Liria. The exhibition Flamboyant: Joana Vasconcelos at the Palacio de Liria, organized by the Casa de Alba Foundation and the Portuguese artist, in collaboration with the Madrid City Council, will be open to the public from February 14 to July 31. The artist will transform the palace’s salons and gardens, intertwining her work with one of the most important private historical and artistic collections in the world, featuring masterpieces by Velázquez, Goya, and Rubens.

At-Tāriq: More Than an Exhibition

In this project, Lebanese artist and composer Tarek Atoui presents part of his research focused on the musical traditions of the trans-Saharan pilgrimage and trade routes. Titled At-Tāriq—meaning “the one who comes from the night” or “the morning star”—the exhibition highlights music accompanied by textures and materials, inviting visitors to explore the customs of rural Arab culture, particularly the hospitality of Arab and North African homes.

Centro Danza Matadero Opens Its Doors

Starting February 6, the Centro Danza Matadero (CDM) will raise the curtain on a diverse and comprehensive program featuring flamenco, classical dance, Spanish dance, and contemporary and urban dance. Under the artistic co-direction of María Pagés and El Arbi El Harti, the CDM will showcase 28 performances through June 2025. The program begins with Pineda, a tribute to Federico García Lorca’s Mariana Pineda, performed by Patricia Guerrero and the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía, running until February 16.

Honoring Antonio Palacios

To mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Antonio Palacios, the architect behind iconic works such as the Palacio de Cibeles, the Círculo de Bellas Artes, and the Hospital de Jornaleros de San Francisco de Paula, the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage of the Madrid City Council is organizing a comprehensive cultural program. This initiative is perfect for those with an appreciation for architecture.
